Arc’teryx Lana Merino Long Sleeve Tee Review

My absolute favorite running, hiking, and camping tops are merino, most of which are Tracksmith’s harriers. Today I’m branching out and trying a similar style from Arc’teryx. Short version? Both are excellent, and I recommend either!

The Lana long sleeve is a pretty basic merino crew, but there are a few things to know before buying. Overall, the Lana is an excellent, versatile tee worn alone or as a baselayer.

P.S. I also bought the short sleeve Lana, and I’ll be publishing that review soon, too!

Fit and Sizing

I’m between XXS and XS, so I bought an XS in the Lana tee. It’s meant to be a slightly relaxed fit, like how it fits me. It’s tailored enough not to look too baggy, but is nicely breezy. The fabric does have some stretch and give, so if you prefer a more fitted look, size down, and it shouldn’t be constricting. Overall, I’d suggest getting your regular size, or size down for a fitted look.

The length at both the sleeves and hem is pretty average. I am 5’3″, and I have some extra length to spare on the sleeves, but not as much as I do in some brands, like my lululemon tops.

Design and Fabric

This is a pretty basic tee, so there’s not a lot to note in terms of features. It does have a slightly contoured hem, with the length slightly shorter at the sides. The length is equal at the front and back.

One cool feature is the thumb loop sewn to the inside of the sleeve hem. This gives you the benefit of thumbholes without it actually being a hole. If you don’t like the loop, you could probably cut these off easily, but I have not tried.

It’s a medium-weight merino, not a tissue-paper kind of feel. It’s thick enough that you can’t see the dark-colored sports bra I’m wearing underneath. The fabric is 87% merino content, which is nicely high. The rest of the fabrication is nylon, which is what gives it a bit more stretch and flexibility. The only other design feature is a subtle embroidered logo on the lower left front.

Comparison: Tracksmith harrier long sleeve versus Arc'teryx Lana long sleeve tee

Arc’teryx Lana merino LS versus Tracksmith harrier LS tee

I’ve previously reviewed Tracksmith’s harrier long sleeve, which I own in several colors and have worn for years. The two tops are quite similar in both quality and usage, but there are a couple differences worth noting.

In the photo above, I lined them up as best I could to show the sizing differences between them. Both are the same size.

The contoured hem and thumb loops are features that only the Arc’teryx tee has. If you prefer a flat hem, go with Tracksmith. You’ll also notice that Tracksmith uses a cuff-style wrist, while Arc’teryx’s has a more simple sleeve hem. Both the sleeves and overall hem length are slightly shorter in the Tracksmith.

The weight and fabric feels equivalent to me. Price is also similar, though Tracksmith has a slight edge. The harrier is $84, but the Lana comes in a bit higher at $90.

The most important deciding factor between the two tees is fit. If the harrier fits too tightly for you or if you want slightly more hem/sleeve length, the Lana is the clear winner, especially with the wider range of sizes that Arc’teryx offers. Expect the Lana tee to fit about one full size larger than the harrier.

Overall, both are excellent tees that are absolute workhorses!

The Lana tee is available via Arc’teryx’s website as well as Zappos.
